A safe work environment is a top priority with Carmacks. In every jurisdiction in which we operate we take the time to review the safety regulations, and seek to go beyond the legal requirements to ensure the safety of our employees, the traveling public and all those who may have occasion to enter our worksites
Safety Policy:
Our company safety policy commits us to provide active leadership and complete support in order to prevent human pain and suffering from personal injury, and economic losses from property damage. Safety Program: Carmacks Safety Program clearly defines the roles of the Safety Co-ordinator, Senior Management, Superintendents, Supervisors, Employees, and the public. We recognize that it takes everyone working together to make Carmacks a safe and healthy workplace.
Safety Steering Committee:
Leadership and co-ordination of the program is provided by a Safety Steering Committee consisting of a representation of management and employees who ensure that the corporate policies and procedures on safety is regularly reviewed, updated and changes implemented.
Safety Training
Carmacks is committed to providing a high level of specialized safety training to its employees, at all levels. This is provided externally through professional safety training associations, as well as internally by our own experienced and trained personnel.
Hazard Assessment/Emergency Response
Carmacks strictly enforces company and government rules and legislation. All sites must be assessed for potential hazards before any work begins, and an emergency response plan must be developed and practiced.
Measuring Effectiveness
A safety program is only as good as its results therefore, Carmacks measures the results of each initiative and adjusts programs accordingly. In addition to conducting our own safety audits, Carmacks is audited on a regular basis by accredited external safety auditors. Results provide the information needed to adjust and continuously improve our programs.
Rewards and Recognition
Annually at our Corporate Staff Appreciation event, eligible employees who have worked safely for the calendar year – January 1 to December 31 - and without incident receive a certificate crediting them with number of hours for the year. “Safe Hours” are used to order merchandise from the Safety catalogue. The employee has the option to accumulate his/her hours over the years in order to attain a more valuable item. The most evident goal is creating this program is to encourage everyone to work and accumulate as many “Safe Hours” as possible each year.
A Commitment To Wellness
Carmacks recognizes that our greatest asset is our people. An investment in the future health and well being of our employee and their families can only be a “win-win” situation. Commitment to facilitating a wellness program for our employees and their families is provided as follows:
- Through a health and wellness newsletter called Top Health which is circulated to work groups and provides helpful information on nutrition, health and lifestyle;
- Through the Carmacks benefit plan, an Employee and Family Assistance program is offered. This is a voluntary, confidential, short term counseling services available to help with a variety of personal and work-related problems.
