#6010/01-Highway 11:12 at the Jct. of Highway 2 Interchange
Hwy 11 & 2 interchange
This project was located on the west side of Red Deer, and was tendered with two possible outcomes. One alternative combined the eastbound lane bridges carrying Hwy 11 over Hwy 2 and the CPR railway with the roadwork portion of the tender. The second alternative allowed for separate awards of the bridges and the
roadwork.
In the end, the contracts were awarded separately. Northside Construction Ltd. was the General Contractor for the roadwork contract, with Carmacks Enterprises Ltd. being the prime subcontractor to Northside for all the surfacing work on the project.
The roadwork portion of the contract encompassed the ramps, connectors, loops, through lanes, and detour roads accompanied with the Hwy 11 and CPR bridge structures over Hwy 2. The roadwork also consisted of the twinning of Hwy 11 for 5 km west of Red Deer, and the tie in of SH 596 to Hwy 11 (67 St.) by providing one through lane and one ramp lane in each direction throughout the course of the work.
Surfacing quantities completed were 115,000 te of granular base course, and 43,000 te of type 1 asphalt concrete pavement. Concrete medians and asphalt median infill were also required.
