HWY 55 OVER PINE CREEK, EAST OF ATHABASCA
PINE CREEK BRIDGE REPLACEMENT
The general scope of work for this project was to replace the existing bridge while maintaining a single lane, two-way traffic during construction. The work involved the demolition of the existing structure and constructing a new three span SCC Composite bridge and roadwork.
Pine Creek is a fish bearing stream which has a restricted in-stream activity period and other environmental and regulatory considerations. Carmacks successfully utilized a detour bridge which clear spanned the creek with no disturbance to the channel. Regulatory agencies visited the site during construction and were appreciative of our method of construction and the minimal disturbance to the surrounding area. As part of Alberta Transportations environmental commitment, an independent environmental audit was conducted on this project and the result was a positive review.
The contract completion date was October 15th, 2009 but was completed four months earlier. Alberta Transportation and their Consultant were exceptionally pleased with the quality of workmanship and completion of the project within budget.
