Thickwood Heights Water Supply
The MD of Wood Buffalo required that a watermain be constructed into the new residential areas of Thickwood and Confederation near Fort McMurray and that it be built in four phases. Carmacks was awarded the final and most difficult phase of the 24” water supply.

The complexity of this project was at the tie-in of the existing meter valve. This was a jigsaw puzzle of communication cables including Shaw and Telus; a duct bank; water lines along with three sets of high voltage cables. In order to complete the work, the high voltage power cables supplying power to the Thickwood area were de-energized for 6 to 8 hours. When this occurred, the crew had to be ready to do their installations and tie-ins in as short a time as possible. They had to make sure they had all supplies and the abilities to accommodate any unforeseen situation.

The entire project was completed on time and within budget.
