Suncor Voyageur Camp - Accommodation Complex
The Voyageur expansion is a key step in Suncor's long-term goal of increasing crude oil production to a target of 550,000 barrels per day. The expansion has three main components:
Four new stages of in-situ bitumen production, which will be added to Suncor's existing in-situ operation;
A new upgrader (Suncor's third) to be located just west of Suncor's existing operation;
Other infrastructure including pipelines, camps, administration facilities, cogeneration, tank farms and a traffic interchange on Highway 63.
Carmacks Enterprises was chosen as the civil contractor for the new camp accommodation complex project. Working under the contract management of EllisDon, Carmacks was responsible for all the excavation and backfilling of dormitory and core building structures, excavation, installation and backfill of deep underground Utilities (Firewater, Potable and Sanitary) and all site grading, road works and parking lot construction.
This project was 90% complete before Suncor cut spending for 2009 due to the economic downturn. It is suggested that this work could resume in 2010.
