Highway Maintenance
Carmacks Enterprises Ltd. began highway maintenance in 1996 when Alberta Transportation contracted out the maintenance work on the Provincial primary highway system. Beginning with a 5 year contract for highways surrounding Calgary, Carmacks established a presence in the area.
Carmacks is presently providing highway maintenance services on Calgary’s Deerfoot Trail, the heaviest traveled road in the entire Province of Alberta. This contract involves 400 lane kms. with 4 to 8 lanes of freeway handling up to 200,000 vehicles per day.
In 2006, the northeast portion of the Calgary Ring Road, also called Northeast Stoney Trail (NEST), was procured as a Public Private Partnership (P3). The Province of Alberta chose the Stoney Trail Group to carry out the work. Carmacks, as a member of the Stoney Trail Group, was awarded a 30 year highway maintenance contract beginning in November 2009. The stretch of road includes the North West and North East sections of the (Calgary) Stoney Trail ring road from Highway #1 west to Highway #1 east.
In addition to the Calgary P3 project, Carmacks as part of a consortium called Northwest Connect acquired an additional 30 year contract in 2008 for the Northwest Anthony Henday, part of the Edmonton ring road system. The maintenance portion of this contract is scheduled to begin November 1, 2011.

One day they will be plowing snow and sanding, the next perhaps dealing with floods or helping motorists, or picking up debris that may cause harm to travelers. This is an exciting Division to work for as you are part of an important, visible team directly involved with the traveling public on a daily basis.
